Since 1987, when I was the Partner and Creative Director of Sruthi Computer Graphics, I had always wanted to make movies and at the minimum cost. 35mm format was out of question and the medium never appealed to me. I tried converting Beta Cam and DV into Film, but the quality never satisfied me. Finally, in 2004, I came to know the HDV format was within the reach of the prosumers. I immediately purchased a Pinnacle Liquid High-Definition Non-Linear Editing Workstation. I was stunned by the quality it delivered. Soon "VEGAM" was on the move. The production began in January 2006 and was completed by June 2006. When I approached the Hyderabad Censor office, I was informed that theatrical censorship cannot be given to a video film even if it is a HD format. In September 2006 , 3 months after I had approached Censor Board for Vegam"s Censorship. I came to know that one movie by the name of "MOONMAATHORAAL" was given Theatrical Release Censor certificate in Kerala. "MOONMAATHORAAL" also claimed that it was the first end-to-end digital film of India. I procured the Censor Certificate of the movie and presented it in front of the A.P. Censor Board. Finally, I received the Theatrical Censor Certificate for "VEGAM" in November 2006. The movie was finally screened on April 6, 2007. Though "VEGAM" was the first Telugu and Andhra Pradesh's First Digital movie to be Digitally Censored and Screened, it missed the chance of being the first Hi-Definition movie of India. I have to thank SRI KAMALHASSAN GARU for actually inspiring the Digital world by taking out "Mumbai Express". Even though it was not HDV and only DV format, it has inspired the Digital process of movie making to an unmeasurable extent.
